Current Events:

  

Jones County is experiencing severe flooding on the Maquoketa and Wapsipinicon Rivers. Many roads are closed due to high water. Do NOT drive or walk through water on the roads!

 

Current road closings are listed below. The list of closings will change as the water levels change. (posted 3:30 p.m. 7/30/10)

Iowa Department of Human Services Office in Jones County To Be Less Than Full-Time on July 1, 2010

   Effective 7/1/10, the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) Jones County Office is a less than full time office. Less than full time office means that the DHS office is not open to the public on a daily basis. This change will not delay or reduce services.
   Residents of Jones County will be able to apply for DHS services in either Linn or Jones County or by applying online at:
www.oasis.iowa.gov
   Please call ahead to arrange an appointment with an Income Maintenance Worker or a Social Worker at either office. The number is 319-462-3557. The Linn County office is located at 411 3rd St. SE in Cedar Rapids. Office hours there are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You should continue to report changes to your Income Maintenance Worker by calling the Customer Service Call Center at 1-877-DHS-5678 or 1-877-347-5678, Fax: 1-877-238-0015.
   The Jones County office will continue to be located at 105 Broadway Place in Anamosa. Income Maintenance Workers will be available for scheduled appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week. Please call 319-462-3557 to make an appointment. Social Workers will be in the local community available for home visits, court, and family team meetings as they always have been.
   Child abuse allegations and services to assist families in assuring their children are safe will be addressed from the Linn County DHS office. Child abuse referrals may be made by contacting the Linn County Office at 319-
892-6800.

Child abuse referrals after normal office hours can be made by calling the Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-362-2178.

E34 Paving Update -July 8, 2010

E-34 is closed to thru traffic, anyone who does not live on E-34 is discouraged from traveling this road.

Central Issuance of Driver’s Licenses and Identification Cards - Beginning April 19, 2010, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) will end the current practice of “over-the-counter” issuance of driver licenses (DLs) and nonoperator identification cards (IDs) and switch to a system known as “central issuance.” At the same time, the DOT will begin issuing new DLs and IDs that offer greater security features and are made with more resilient and durable materials.  For additional information, please visit http://www.iowadot.gov/centralissuance/

 2010 Self Application Dust Control Permit

 

This permit allows the applicant to treat the specified section of road with one of the three approved dust control products-calcium chloride, magnesium chloride or lignon sulphonate.  Please download this file and fill out all the information above the applicant signature line.  Sign the permit and return it to the Jones County Engineer's Office at P.O. Box 368, Anamosa, IA 52205.  In accepting this permit, the permit holder agrees not to treat the road surface until having received approval from the Jones County Engineer's office.

Following the April 30th deadline there is a $10.00 late filing fee.

Passport Fee Increase

The U.S. Department of State will increase application fees for the U.S. Passport Book and U.S Passport Card.  These new fees will go into effect July 13, 2010.

Jones County is located in east central Iowa. The county seat is Anamosa. Jones County is within a 30-40 minute drive to the Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Iowa City, Davenport, Waterloo, and Clinton areas. Major highways include U.S. 151 and 64 along with Highways 38, 136, and 1.
