The Recorder's Office was created by the First Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Iowa in 1839.  The Recorder continues to maintain official records of documents affecting title to real estate.  A significant portion of duties performed by the other county officials are dependent on the work performed by the County Recorder.  In addition, we issue hunting and fishing licenses annually, register boats, snowmobiles, and ATVs. Birth, Death, and Marrigage records are maintained in the Recorder's Office, issuing Marriage Licenses, and Certified copies of Vital Records.  We also take applications for Passport Books and Cards. As a service to the public we take Passport pictures at a cost of $10.00.

ATV, Snowmobile, Dirtbike and ORV user permits expired 12/31/2009.  Renew your vehicle now at the Recorder's office.  Please bring your driver's license and current user permit.  If you have any questions, please call 319-462-2477.  $5.00 penalty after January 1st, 2010.

There is a proposal by the U.S. Department of State to increase application fees for the U.S. Passport Book and U.S Passport Card.

These new fees could go into effect March 2010.

Monday thru Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
On the last day of the month we will close the day's work at 2:30 PM, and at the end of the fiscal year books close at 1:30 PM.  The doors will be closed for fiscal year end balancing.  We are also closed designated holidays.
