In October 2007 the old landfill was closed and a new transfer station opened.  Waste is now transported to a landfill in Milan, Illinois for final disposal. 

The Jones County Solid Waste Management Commission offers recycling services for the collection of appliances, scrap metal, tires, electronics, and household hazardous wastes.
